Conversational SEO: Conversations that increase your rank

It’s actually really simple if you think about it. While the term – conversational SEO – does sound cool and everything; it’s nothing more than thinking strategically about the way you (as marketers) have online conversations with your customers. By employing the basic fundamentals of SEO (on-page optimization); whereby you use key terms that you are trying to rank for within your conversations, you can reap the benefits of a nice increase in rank. The challenge is that you do so naturally and not like the following:
“Thank you for comment on our website that sells computers and printers. While we understand your frustration about our computer and printer shipping policy; there is nothing we can do to assist you. We do hope that you will be patient for your computer and printer; and you may want contact the shipping company. They may have your computer and printer in their warehouse.”

A great resource for conversational marketing news

If you are like me and enjoy reading about the latest trends in conversational marketing, I would recommend visiting Conversational Media. It’s a site that aggregates top news/blog feeds about conversational marketing and social media. It pulls in feeds from Shel Holtz himself, Andy Beal, Chris Heuer, Emily Chang, John Battelle, Stephanie Agresta and Jeremiah Owyang to name a few. The site was founded by Ted Shelton and was created as a joint project with Technorati and The Conversation Group in an effort to highlight developments in what is sometimes referred to as social media; which they are calling conversational media.

What Does HP and Social Bookmarking Have in Common?

Well, nothing really except they use a kick a$$ social bookmarking tool. The tool was built by in-house developers and unfortunately cannot be used by anyone outside of HP (hopefully that will change some day). It’s kind of similar to the one I use but it has an animated gif, that has 4 different states displaying the icons of Stumbleupon, del.icio.us, My Yahoo and Digg rotating every few seconds.
The following is a screen shot of the tool once you click on share/tag; and you will notice all the social media channels. The cool thing is HP can add/change/delete sites in the tool and it will dynamically change it in all the blogs and web sites that use it.

SocialSpark: Bridging the gap between consumers and brands

Just yesterday, I wrote an article about SocialSpark and its impact on social media and conversational marketing. SocialSpark, owned by Izea – a social media marketing company – will serve as a communications platform that levels the playing field so that brands can have real time, authentic conversations with their customers and/or potential customers. It’s a way for brand marketers to become personal with their customers and begin the relationship building process; rather than hiding behind the traditional corporate marketing fluff. As the practice of conversational marketing is gaining widespread adoption by marketers and with budgets on the rise, SocialSpark is the engine that will help facilitate these conversations.

BlogWorld: All about Conversational Marketing

One of the common themes at BlogWorld was that of conversational marketing; and how imperative is for marketers to participate in conversations with their customers. This doesn’t surprise me since the budgets are growing exponentially for conversational marketing initiatives. Click here for a more in-depth summary of the sessions I attended. My only beef with the conference was that some of the sessions were off topic; a few of the presenters weren’t well organized, and some didn’t even show up.

Learn SEO in less than 2 minutes!

Thank you to my friend Linda who wrote about this last week. This rap was written by Chuck, a.k.a “m0serious,” who works over at Pop Labs; a search and social media consulting firm. Enjoy!

And, here is how I found this video…and I may be speculating on a few points. But, I blogged yesterday about the rise in budgets of conversational marketing; I also added the link to my Facebook news feed. (Here is where it is unclear) Either Linda subscribes to my RSS feed or she saw the link I posted on Facebook and went to my site. How do I know this? Well, the handy dandy MyBlogLog widget of course — and if you want to join my community, feel free to do so. I then decided to see what she was up to and found the video. So, it took me only one social network to find this [...]

Budgets on the rise for Conversational Marketing

I came across this interesting article about the growth projections of social media and conversational marketing over the next 5 years. According to the study, 81% of marketers said in five years, they will be spending as much or more on conversational marketing vs. traditional marketing initiatives. And, while conversational marketing still represents a small portion of today’s marketing mix, conversational marketing is expected to outpace traditional marketing by the year 2012. I’m glad they are finally getting it!
