Discover things to do locally with Zvents

Zvents is a complete events/calendar ecosystem, with search, event creation, calendaring, sharing and blogging tools (widgets, calendars) for promotion of local events. Their site looks very similar to Eventful.com although the search functionality is clearly superior and it certainly is a very clean site built entirely in Ajax. They have also built an API that provides programmatic access to objects stored within their site. These objects include events, venues, groups, users and tags.

While the site is cool indeed, the real question is how can a marketer use Zvents to promote products and/or services. Paul, who blogs over at Seobrien and also works for the company sums it up nicely:

When we think of events we typically think of those I’ve listed above, popular activities in which one can attend or participate. We easily overlook the fact that many of our more traditional daily activities are functionally events and therefore relevant to our product. Consider that your consumers shop during sales or line up around stores for new product releases. New home buyers visit open houses to evaluate opportunities and car dealers regularly hold special events to move vehicles off the lot. We attend conferences and seminars throughout our workday to stay on top of the latest developments and continue our education with classes of personal interests. Sales, new product releases, classes, showings, these are all events that should be promoted through Zvents as Williams-Sonoma, for example, is doing now.

Also, from a social media perspective, they also provide a cool calendar widget that is sure to increase engagement on your blog and/or web site.

Zvents....too hard to use. The UI is extremely confusing.
  • so, did they pay you to write this? And, why don't you have that "cool" calendar widget on your blog? lol.
