Yes, I am an In-House SEO Guy, Among Other Things

A good friend of mine who I work with, and who also authors an SEO blog emailed me the other day to say that we made some “Top In-House SEO List” that the guys over at the Natural Search Blog put together. The article is very impressive and talks about the advantages of working in house; and goes into the standardization of titles, compensation levels, etc. within big organizations.  I must say that I was flattered that I made this list; but it’s probably due to the company that I work for.  Nonetheless, the amusing thing about is that I have already been approached by three SEO firms cuddling up to me…hmmm…wonder why?  One firm (and I won’t mention their name because I never heard of them before) even went as far as complimenting my blog in hopes to start building a relationship with me.  It’s quite entertaining.

Online promotion with the aid of online marketing and seo are good ways to promote yourself and your business on the online environment. When it comes to seo services there are only a handful of companies who really know what they're doing. Only these know what content is all about, fixing site issues, URL canoniclization and rewrites and getting you a lot of links. If you want SEO for your site i recommend you search for a good company. Don't let a noname mess up your site !
  • It's clear that as far as the mainstream goes, SEO is still a bit of a novelty field. No one would think of putting together a list of in-house PR specialists. I can't imagine there aren't many, many, many more dedicated SEOs in house than made it onto that list; not that there's anything wrong with highlighting how important big companies think SEO is, but that list seemed to be more about the companies than the individuals.

And as one person pointed out, some of us in-house SEOs like to keep a low profile ;)
  • Hi Jen - thanks for stopping by. I will definitely take a look at your forum.

Oh, don't worry about me...I can spot a con at the drop of a dime.

  • I too was mentioned on the site - I thought it was interesting how he added my name and a link to my site, but didn't mention anything to me about it. I was pointed to it by a company trying to woo me as well -

    Funny how that works huh?

I attended the SES in NY last week and there was an entire series dedicated to In House SEO's. I decided to add a section to my very slow but growing discussion site - www.semdiscussion.com/InHouse_SEO_Forum - I haven't linked it from the rest of the site yet. I want to get some ideas of topics, and some discussions going first...

Don't let those Consulting Firms take you away -

  • Michael, thank you for pointing that out. I didn't realize that the comma would affect the link. Try www.hobbyworldunited.com
